He grew to love bailing hay and working on his farm. He loved gardening and would plant all types of vegetables, greens, turnips, and sweet potatoes just to name a few. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle from New York to Virginia on weekends, reuniting with his mother and family. He would often tell stories about his time living in NY. Ulysses relocated to Kenbridge Virginia from New York with his wife Louise, (deceased) and bought a farm. ![]() He decided to return to Virginia after retirement. He often worked on the repairs himself to beautify and make it comfortable for her. He was immensely proud of purchasing a home for his mother Anna, in Disputanta, VA. He retired from working when he was in his early sixties. He loved to travel to different states and loved the beaches. ![]() He loved skating and still had white leather skates. He often bragged about his many tools and farming equipment. He would watch it late most nights or it was watching him. He loved watching the Television show Gun Smoke. He loved to talk and carry on about current events. One of his favorite dishes was fried potatoes. When he knew they were coming from New York to visit him in VA he was filled with excitement. He would often have conversations with and about them and wonder what they were doing. He loved spending time with his family, children and grandchildren. He was a faithful member of Hopewell and Colonial Heights bowling leagues and Walnut Hill before their closing. If he was not bowling, he was talking about going bowling. Ulysses loved to bowl and was an avid bowler on several bowling leagues. He earned his license as a Private Pilot and would share his joy of flying with his son by flying with him. He voluntary firefighter for Nyack, New York. His knowledge of auto mechanics led to being an adjunct professor at Bronx Community College teaching auto mechanics. He was proud of working as a mechanic for Penske Truck company, fixing and repairing transmissions. He used every opportunity to advance and increase his knowledge and skills in auto mechanics. His first job was at Ted Curry Motor Company in Petersburg VA. He married Barbara Ford, from this union he had two children Cassandra Jones, Ulysses A. At an early age he accepted Christ and was a faithful member and supporter of First Baptist Church in Disputanta, VA. He attended his class reunions until his untimely departure. He helped organize a protest that led to forming the new desegregated school. ![]() He received his formal education from Disputanta Training School. He was born on Februin Disputanta, VA to the late Anna Miles and Alexander Jones. departed this life on Septemat Southside Regional Medical Center (SRMC), Petersburg, VA.
